History of Omega Church
The Omega Church software program has been simplifying church administration for over 10 years. The first version was released as a DOS program in 1997 and very quickly grew to include family administration, income recording and gift aid claiming. A second version, based on Microsoft Access, was released in 2000 and added new features such as pastoral visitation scheduling.
Omega underwent its biggest change in 2005 when a brand new version was released, developed using Microsoft's .NET technology. Officially known as "Omega.NET", this version added a vastly improved interface, a powerful reporting tool, a dedicated Organisations module and a new, efficient back end data storage in Microsoft SQL. With a growing user base and more feedback from users, Omega Version 2 was released in February 2008. With further improvements to the interface and added features and improvements in every area, the biggest addition was a dedicated module called Omega Accounts, enabling Omega to handle all aspects of church finances, including receipts & payments accounting and reporting in line with charities legislation.
